Weber/St John is a Piano + Violin music duo consisting of Kurt Weber and Ash St. John. What began as a small side project has grown into an energetic duo that has developed a reputation with original works, classical works and arrangements of hymns.
Kurt is a composer and pianist with over a decade of experience in creating beautiful piano music. Although learning how to play at a young age, his true passion for the instrument began as a young adult during a military deployment in Kuwait in 2012. Over time, he discovered a particular love for solo piano arrangements of timeless hymns. Ash St. John is a story of persistence through life’s trials, working with music his entire adult life, Ash has developed a musical reputation in the Minnesota area and has enjoyed a period of prolific creativity.

Burlesque ‘Artlesque’ Performance Art Exhibition
Cost: FREE! TIPS highly recommended.
Friday - May 16
·
Saturday - May 17
Friday 9:30pm; Saturday 7:30pm
Burlesque is a long historied art-form which intersects with other performance expressions such as drag, cabaret, circus, and even cosplay and beyond. Picture: The aesthetic camp and whimsical charm of a live Chappell Roan stage performance (e.g. The Pink Pony Club!).
At Marble Fae Collective, we also work to give Black Femmes their flowers wherever possible. Black women were among the earliest to perform burlesque, with The Creole Show (1890) and The Black Crook (1866) predating ALL other demographics in the art form.
What makes a Burlesque dance-act stand apart from other performance-art genres?
- Confidence and Charm: This includes a commanding presence, a smile, and engaging the audience.
- Comedic Timing: Burlesque often incorporates comedic elements, and demonstrations might showcase this with jokes or funny routines.
- Theatricality: This includes how the dancer uses their body, costumes, and stage props to create a performance.
Burlesque stands out from other performance arts due to its unique blend of humor, satire, and sensuality, often incorporating elements of dance, comedy, and theatrical presentation. Many performers make their own costumes, convey thoughtful narratives, and mix their own music.
While other genres might feature similar elements, burlesque emphasizes the performer’s autonomy as an artist, self-awareness, and a playful – even comedic – approach to challenging social norms and the ‘male gaze’.
MF Creative Collective strives to platform disabled, BIPOC, and queer artists & performers. There is infinite power that is generated when we unite and share our diverse forms of creative expression. In connecting visual and performing artists to one another, MFCC seeks to build community in Minneapolis so underrepresented artists can collaborate in mutual support, and flourish together.
