Land Acknowledgment
The Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association community lives, works, and creates on Dakota makoce, the homelands of the Dakota people. NEMAA acknowledges that the Northeast Minneapolis neighborhoods, which have become a thriving center for the arts in the region, have their foundation in deceptive and broken treaties that stole the land and forced displacement of the Dakota.
Dakota and Indigenous people are still here, and deserve recognition of their unique political distinction and welcome within our community.
Reparations
In recognition of this history, and to honor the Dakota people who continue to live, work, and create both within Minnesota and as part of the diaspora, NEMAA artist memberships are free for all Dakota and all Native artists.
NEMAA’s JOIN page includes an option for Dakota or Native Artist membership. We ask that artists list their tribal affiliation(s), regardless of official enrollment status.
