Combining spontaneity and intention, Eli Balbach’s work represents life’s paradoxes. Eli’s technique enables the medium to move and inspire while also bringing a classically trained sentiment to every piece. His work features a variety of series that focus on crosscutting themes including the Northwoods experience, identity and introspection, mental health awareness, and explorations into mythological and political symbols. And yet, his pieces are united through bold lines, unexpected colors and textures, and abstract expressionist, neoexpressionist, and surrealist influences.
Eli earned his BFA in visual arts at Bemidji State University in 2012 where he studied oil painting, drawing, sculpture, and printmaking.
