The Encaustic Immersive Retreat is a multi-technique workshop, which focuses on layering encaustic paintings from the panel up. There will be something for everyone to push your work further. You will make unexpected discoveries about color mixing, transparency, and opacity, which is a great way to deepen your understanding of the medium and your artistic expression.

Building imagery using these exciting techniques will also encourage a more intuitive approach to composition, as each layer can introduce new elements or shift the focus in surprising ways. It’s an exciting way to learn how to create depth and complexity while allowing for that freedom of experimentation.
We will start by embedding your images printed on tissue paper as collage to create mixed-media paintings that are translucent and have depth. You will further develop your skills with encaustic while developing a series of works during the workshop. Demonstrations will include techniques working with image transfers, developing line and edge techniques, carving and scraping through layers to develop surface, color mixing using various materials such as ink, charcoal, Pan Pastel, oil pastel, graphite, and R&F Pigment Sticks.
Emphasis will be placed on creating a sense of balance, design and honing your composition for a unique focal point. You will find your expression through an exploration of mark-making, photos as collage, and translucency at varying levels. There will be lots of work time with individual feedback to support you as your paintings unfold.
