I create ceramic sculpture.
My sculpture strives to evoke mystery and ambiguity using biomorphic forms that straddle the boundaries between the human, the animal, and the imagined. My intent is to connect the world of the subconscious with the world of our everyday perceptions of reality.
My current work explores relationships between abstract forms within narrative compositions. I invite viewers to enter these environments and discover something within themselves—perhaps a feeling not often acknowledged, or an experience long forgotten. By suggesting a presence beyond our everyday world—and probing the private world within each of us—I like to think my work communicates a delightful edginess.

Inspired by Susan’s lifelong appreciation for birds and by combining her ceramic art with her appreciation for birds and nature, Susan hopes that viewers will take a fresh look at abstract art, ceramic sculpture, and where we find birds—in their natural habitats—and in our own daily lives and imaginations.
