Sarah C Chapman

The objects I make are inspired by architecture, by nature as architect, and by my desire to build. I am struck by the process of building, how decisions are made, items are organized, and how a structure grows from an idea. While designing my jewelry, I work toward a balance between the industrial and natural worlds, with a focus on functionality. In addition to designing each structure, I also handwork each piece, using techniques such as fabrication, casting, cold-connections, soldering, etching, and forming. Striving to work with recycled metals when possible, I primarily work with oxidized sterling silver, copper, brass, and 14k gold to create my pieces.
