Meg is a 2D mixed media artist living in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her current body of work explores the themes of women, water and power. She is a devoted open water swimmer and she finds strength, joy, collective effervescence, and resilience when submerging herself in natural bodies of water year-round, even when the lakes are frozen over. Water is a source of wonder and creative inspiration, a medium that connect her to the natural world. She holds this in balance with an awareness of water’s power to shape, transform, and sometimes destroy.
She uses gouache and watercolor to paint independent layers on paper and wood—depicting water, sky, trees, fish, weeds, rocks, clouds, and figures. These elements come to life through simple stop-motion animation, allowing her to experiment with movement, transformation, and composition. Once animated, she affixes the same painted pieces into static, layered paintings, capturing the movement in a fixed form.
Her practice is interactive and experimental. She intentionally includes her hands in the animations, revealing the presence of the artist and emphasizing the act of creation.
Through this evolving process, she aims to explore the dynamic relationships between control and surrender, movement and stillness, permanence and change—mirroring the shifting nature of water.
