Overview

I would say my art is typically focused on the deconstruction of  bigotry and genophobia with a touch of dark humor. (I’m fine.)

Sculpture:

Using previously living and natural elements like teeth, bone, stone, natural gems, horn, feathers, clay, wasp nests, moss, mummified animal flesh, and more introducing them to manmade materials like resin and processed metals.

Painting:

Acrylic on canvas, sometimes with elements of collage: recycled magazines and materials.

Writing:

Poetry; nonfiction prose; semi-biographical stream of consciousness.

TRIGGER WARNING: Art by J.M.Liles

TRIGGER WARNING is the artist's confrontation of the forces that seek to control, silence, and erase. Through a series of paintings, sculptures, and installations, this exhibit exposes the violent contradictions of indoctrination, the suffocating grip of bigotry, and the deeply rooted misogyny and genophobia that dictate who is allowed to exist freely. Opening reception May 2, 5:30–8:30pm.
