(2) Leaving Port
After visiting Duluth, MN and watching the 1000 foot long freighter, the Mesabi Miner, arrive and leave through the Lake Superior canal into the Duluth harbor, I finished this painting, “Leaving Port,” an acrylic on canvas measuring 36 x 60 inches. This piece explores the fusion of abstract forms with the realism of familiar structures. Inspired by the energetic spectacle of the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge, the painting features a vibrant palette of reds, oranges, yellows, and purples, with dynamic textures and patterns. The introduction of realistic elements like the bridge, the ship and a seagull marks a new direction in my work, blending my background in photography with abstract painting. I’m excited to invite you into this visually energetic journey where realism and abstraction intersect.
