(5) Street Rhapsody

35.5×96 inch acrylic on carved acrylic panel wall sculpture.

This artwork is based on pedestrian pathway signs along the Hudson River Park in New York City. The signs intrigue me as they are of a universal generic symbol spray painted onto the pathway using a stencil, yet due to application and weathering no two images are alike. With a Dremel Tool, I carve these figurative shapes out of acrylic panels. The figures become my irregular shaped canvas to which I apply abstract painting techniques.

As I work on my art, I think of how people influence one another and their environment – even by just walking past each other. We breathe the same air, drink the same water and share unseen microorganisms. These are forms of communication and interaction. We are affected by each other and by the world around us. We live on a cellular level and a cosmic level: Inner Space and Outer Spac
