The Gap Between Worlds
This exhibition with artists Amy Ballinger and Rebecca Krinke runs from January 17-February 17 in WBCA’s Ford Family Gallery.
Amy and Rebecca bring a shared interest in the fantastical space between physical and otherworldly realms to The Gap Between Worlds. Both artists embrace working in and with “the gap” as the space where dreaming and being awake mingle to conjure a space for transformation. Ballinger’s photographs create a time and space that resembles reality, but upon closer look it is implausible. It is a metaphor for a dream, or altered consciousness, where the narrow channel of reality we travel on from life until death is expanded. Krinke’s art has its origins in a potent and mysterious dream. Her installations have developed through four sequential dreams of specific animals, and all have pointed toward a next stage of being. In her new large-scale installation, Submerged, the eye of an octopus hovers above a writing desk within an uncanny reading room, beckoning to the primordial, to the unknown, and to what cannot be said.
