Craft in a Time of Tariffs: Implications and Possibilities for American Makers
Join the American Craft Council, in partnership with Craft Emergency Relief Fund (CERF+) and The Furniture Society, for “Craft in a time of tariffs” a virtual panel discussion on Tuesday, May 6 from 2–3:30 p.m. CT. Our knowledgeable speakers will explore the short-term and long-reaching impacts of tariffs on American makers and craft-centered small businesses, reflect on what other industries and history can teach us about resilience, and identify constructive actions we can take individually and collectively.
Participants include Chris Farrell, senior economics contributor for Minnesota Public Radio News and American Public Media’s Marketplace; Robert Sukrachand, Brooklyn-based designer and artist; Sharon Zimmerman of Sharon Z Consulting, a craft-based small business consulting firm; and Brett Binford, artist and co-owner of Mudshark Studios. This program will be moderated by Julie Lasky, journalist for The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and many others and part-time assistant professor in the Industrial Design MFA program at Parsons School of Design.
