I make functional pottery for everyday use.
Since graduating from college with a degree in art education and studio art, I have chosen ceramics as my primary art medium for my own personal work. I love creating functional pottery that friends and family can enjoy in their own homes. I believe that creativity is my calling, and I use that creative energy in the world by making objects that are pleasing to see and use.
Over the past 25 years, I have created space dedicated to working with clay, which has resulted in the development of my ceramic artistry. Professionally as an educator, I harvest that creative energy in the form of writing lesson plans for and teaching my students about the creative process. It has been a joy to guide students to develop their creative selves, and to see that creative awareness growing in them.
It is often the students’ creative energy and their questions that remind me to keep seeking new and other possibilities when creating art. I often will set myself due dates or other parameters on my work to help push my creativity past my current level of thinking. The words that I use to encourage my students in their own artist journey are often the words that I find myself going to for motivation when creating.
The journey of educator and artist is a path that I enjoy because I am always creating and learning.
