I am a multidisciplinary artist creating abstract forms and installations with roots deeply grounded in fiber arts. I work intuitively experimenting with a variety of materials and processes to express the emotional history of my life experiences. From situations in my past where I had no agency over my life, my inherent need to control situations remains potent. Through my sculptures and installations I work out the struggle between the tension of one’s desire for control and the tentative vulnerability that comes with the maturity of knowing we only have influence over ourselves.
My background as a scenic artist and designer for the theater informs the narrative nature of my work, my use of materials and my intuitive spatial instincts. The haptic and repetitive techniques I gravitate to, such as hand-stitching, wet felting and paper making provide a meditative practice for me to contemplate my past and find balance in the present.
