I am drawn to simple shapes, textures and patterns.  I also love the way working in clay connects me all the way back to early humans.  Most of my work is for the wall where I create installations by arranging individual clay objects.  Just for fun, I have turned some of the shapes I love into rattles and jewelry,  that way you don’t have to commit an entire wall in order to own one of my pieces.

Most recently, I, like so many others, have been concerned about the threat to our earth from climate change and other human caused pressures.  I especially love the boreal forests of Minnesota and the Boundary Waters. “Vanishing Species”,  my recent series of wall pieces honoring the trees and animals of that ecosystem, arose from my opposition to the proposed PolyMet mine on the edge of that precious land.

My wall installations can either be purchased as is ( I provide templates for installation or will arrange to install at your location for a small fee) or they can be commissioned to suit your space.  I love the challenge of designing custom work, so please contact me for a proposal and an estimate.

I often use terra sigillata to seal my surfaces.  Terra sigillata was first used in Ancient Greek pottery, and refers to the practice of suspending very fine clay particles in water and applying that solution to the ceramic surface to create a soft sheen.
