Tibet – Tar Se La Mountain

This photograph of Tar Se La Mountain is printed on canvas and framed in a traditional walnut frame. As framed the piece is 34″ x 24″.

The day before taking this photograph I spent an afternoon scouting out the location. It was a gray and overcast day. None of the photographs I took that day compare to this one. The next day I went back. My wife and a friend set up to paint watercolors of flowers. I set out hoping to find the same location (its a big mountain!). I found the spot and took the photograph. I love the majestic mountain, the pillowy clouds and sweep of the valley. In the lower right corner is a home. If you look closely, you will see a person dressed in red walking toward the home.

My hike took hours. After I took the photograph of the mountain, I  was interrupted by a group of monks who were performing a prayer service by the side of the river. They invited me to join them. At first I declined and waved them off. They insisted and sent several monks up the side of the mountain to escort me down to the river. Although we did not speak each other’s language, we communicated sufficiently so that I knew they wanted copies of the photographs I had taken of them and they had taken of me with my camera. It is a long story but after returning to the U.S. I was able to get the photographs to them.
