There is an unregulated power in the arts regarding gender and socioeconomic status for underrepresented communities. Native people are often unseen and unheard regarding issues that impact their livelihood and way of life. The main culprit is the appropriation of identity, arts, and culture. How do we decolonize the historical art canon, reimagining what existed on Turtle Island/North America?

Join us for a panel discussion with leading voices in the arts to talk about the fall-out of appropriation. What is it, how does it hurt Native people and who has the power to challenge it to bring change.

With artists Ashley Fairbanks (White Earth Anishinaabe), Marlena Myles (Spirit Lake Dakota/ Mohegan), and Lumhe Micco Sampson (Seneca/Creek).

Listen remotely or join us for an in-person discussion with light refreshments by Sioux Chef.

Presented in partnership by Mnisota Native Artists Alliance and Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association.
