Join Silverwood Park on Thursday, September 6 from 6 – 8 pm, for the reception of Bird Watching. In Bird Watching, Paula McCartney uses photography to explore the idea of constructed landscapes. Bird Watching combines varied natural settings with carefully placed craft store songbirds to create an enhanced landscape. This work explores how nature and fabricated elements can combine to create a scene that questions what is natural and whether being so holds any intrinsic importance.
Inspired by Victorian botany journals, Blossfeldt’s Art Forms in Nature, and Audubon’s Birds of America, the scientific practice of collecting and labeling specimens is a starting point for her work. She has examined the natural landscape and then added to it, creating a new environmental experience. If you are a user of Facebook, you can join the event here.
The show is on view August 9 – September 30, 2018.
Silverwood Galleries are open daily from 9 am – 8 pm and are free and open to the public.
