Season’s End

This is the last time we will venture out on the water this year. The leaves on the trees are changing and there was a heavy frost on the grass this morning. Soon our boat, along with all its sundry accoutrements, will be covered and put to bed for the winter. But for today, I’ll enjoy the cool wind in my hair, the sound of the water lapping against the hull, the smell of autumn and open water. I’ll pack up these memories and stow them away for the long frozen days to come. For while the season’s end is bittersweet, like all endings, it makes me cherish this last day all the more.
