Scratchboard/Gertstein

This is a scratchboard etching measuring 17.75″ wide by 15.75″ length. It is professionally framed and was created in 2012. The image originates from a painting of a figure. I am a big fan of Gertrude Stein and have read all about her salon and all the famous artists and characters that would have attended her salon events. This is my impression of one of those characters. The scratchboard is an intermittant medium for me, for when I have hankering to etch. The substrate is a wood or masonite board, coated with a very fine coat of plaster or marbeldist and then finished with a couple thin coats of india ink. The artist etches through the india ink layer to reveal the white below. I am building a scratchboard collection/gallery and will post the finished pieces on this shop, however, this is one of my firts creations in scratchboard.
