Sa Filonzana – Boes & Merdules

Original charcoal and pencils on paper 11″ x 14″.

Black frame.

The third most important character from Ottana Carnival is “Sa Filonzana”.

In the past people were scared by this mask, particularly for her role in the Carnival, which was a matter of superstition.

Her figure and performance are similar to those of one Greek Moirai, Clotho, who held a spindle and was always ready to cut the thread of life.

“Sa Filonzana” wears a pearwood anthropomorphic mask with a sad expression and a black baggy shawl. Sometimes she is hunchbacked.

She carries a spindle, which she spins with the raw wool while walking down the village streets.

Giclée Fine Art prints are also available.
