Rock & Water

Hand coated cyanotype print of a slot canyon. Image taken in Zion National Park and. was created on watercolor paper using the sun. Print is 12’x16′  in size.

Cyanotypes, also known as ‘blue prints’ is an old 19th century photo process. Chemistry is mixed together and hand coated on the paper. Then light from the sun is used to expose the image. Instead of silver salts like most film and other darkroom processes use, cyanotypes are made with iron salts which gives it that distinct blue color.
