Prayer Plant

Maranta Leuconeura, also called Prayer Plant, is a favorite houseplant of mine. The leaves fold up at night and open again in the morning. My process here was to fill the paper with words using water-based markers and then draw on top of that text-texture, and then use water and added watercolor paint to pull forward and push back different parts of the image. The words say, “Be Here Now”, and “Compassion”.
