Mary
I was introduced to poet Mary Oliver by a photographer friend who often shows her evocative photography alongside a Mary Oliver poem.
Mary Oliver’s deep connection to nature and her success in leading a life that suited her rather than obeying societal expectations is very inspiring to me. I find myself in her words about relationships and the natural world, and how she was filled with wonder at both. She turned the harsh beginnings of her life – she suffered abuse as a child – into beauty and redemption for herself and her many fans. The fact that her work was accessible and popular, and that she was criticized for that, makes it only more lovable to me.
