Lidded Box in Cottonwood with Cocobolo Inlay
I turned this lidded box on a lathe. The body is cottonwood. The lid has an inlay of textured cocobolo.
The box is 2¾” in diameter x 4⅛” high with the lid.
The lidded box is an art form embraced by many wood turners. Each has at least one hollowed base and a lid. Sometimes, a box has multiple stacking bases. There are infinite variations in the design of the base and lid. It is a form that allows artists to show their creativity and skill. It also is a great medium for showing the interesting characteristics of wood. Lidded boxes can be useful, but most often they are collected and displayed as objet d’art. They typically are small and relatively inexpensive making them fun to collect.
