Gold Medal Flour

Gold Medal Flour  is a hand-pulled lithograph. The image size is 11″ by 14″. The paper is trimmed to the edge of the image and has no border. The image is printed on Arches Cover, an archival rag paper. This image is available unframed and shrink wrapped or framed with archival matting and UV filtering glass. Images of framing available upon request.

This lithograph was completed at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.  It is a 3-color lithograph, hand drawn and printed by Faye Passow. The image starts with a line drawing which is done plein air at the site of the subject matter. I apply a black rectangle of ink to a litho stone and then trace the line drawing onto the ink surface, which has been buffed with talc for handling purposes. I then scrap out negative areas using single edge razor blades and not necessarily following any logic. The stone is etched, processed and re-etched and then proofed. A proof on mylar is used to draw the orange and red tones which are printed first, followed by the black run.  After a week or so of drying time a yellow/brown, mostly transparent ink is printed over the entire image. This deepens the black in the image and gives the whole work an aged and luminous feeling. The art trimmed to size and signed and numbered on the reverse side. Hand lithographs are multiple originals. This lithograph has a limited edition of 28 with 1 Artist’s Proof. Each one is an original.

Gold Medal Flour received 2nd Place at the Minnesota State Fair Fine Art Exhibition in 2020.
