Easy Pants Workshop – Confident Beginner

2 day workshop:

Saturday, March 23 from 10am-5pm

Sunday, March 24 from 10am-5pm (if needed to finish).

We allot extra time to ensure everyone gets the support they need. You may or may not need the whole time to complete the project!

In this two-day workshop, we will sew a pair of straight leg, elastic waist pants using the Versa Pants pattern by Danish patternmakers Puff and Pencil. This genderless pattern is suitable for people with a hip measurement between 33 and 50″, but if you need a smaller or larger size please reach out and we can either grade the pattern for you or substitute a similar pattern with a larger size range.

This project is customizable! Sew with the fabric of your choice – something light and flowy for a lounge-style pant, or something heavier like canvas or corduroy for more of a workwear vibe. These pants have French-seamed slash pockets, and you will have the option to add back patch pockets and side pockets with or without a cargo flap if you wish. You can also choose between a drawstring, simple elastic waistband, or bungee cord with stoppers for a fun detail. Maybe you want to make these pants cropped, or sew the pockets in a contrasting fabric! The design details are up to you – I will help you through the process. You’ll also be able to finish the seams with one of our sergers for a clean and professional look.

You’ll learn new skills including:

-French seams

-serger basics

-edgestitching and topstitching

-slash pockets

-patch/cargo pockets

-proper pinning and pressing

-changing the length of a pattern piece (if desired)

-elastic insertion

-& lots more!

This workshop is designed for those with some experience sewing – it will help if you know how to thread your machine, wind and insert the bobbin, and sew a straight stitch and backstitch to keep up with the pace of the class. However, a positive and confident attitude can make up for a lack of experience! You are welcome to take this class with no prior experience if you wish (it may take a bit longer to get through the project). We have project support sessions available if you need more time to finish after the class, as well as unlimited ongoing email support.

The cost of the pattern license and a printed pattern are included when you sign up. You will need to purchase your own fabric and notions. An email with information on how to do so will be sent prior to the workshop date.

We have sewing machines to borrow in the studio, or you can bring your own machine! If you’d like to use one of our machines, please reach out upon signing up.

Open Studio is located on the 2nd floor. You will need to climb one flight of stairs to reach our space. We are aware that this is an accessibility issue and hope in the future to move to a more accessible location as we grow. If there’s anything we can do to accommodate you, please get in touch before the workshop.

Refund Policy:

If you need to cancel, please reach out no later than one week prior to the class for a refund.
