Crown Vetch
Flower size: 1 inch clusters of ½ inch flowers
Scientific name: Securigera varia, also Coronilla varia L.
Other common names: crownvetch, purple crown vetch, trailing crown-vetch, axseed
Native to Africa, Asia and Europe
Identified as invasive in a number of U.S. states where it has escaped cultivation into natural areas.

Crownvetch, a vining legume in the Fabaceae (pea) family, is is commonly used throughout the United States and Canada for erosion control, roadside planting and soil rehabilitation. It’s useful as forage for ruminant animals such as cattle and sheep, and deer eat it in the wild.
