This is a collection of exhibition-quality ink or graphite drawings recorded during a life drawing cooperative. The works are most often on bristol plate paper and if framed are framed in archival materials with UV Plexiglas.
The drawings convey the vitality and elegance of the human figure in fluid lines. They are the result of deliberate marks consciously placed on the expanse of the paper in a purposeful composition. The intention is to express and exaggerate the shape as well as the persona of the model.
I refer to my work as Line Drawing. I draw lines waltzing across the paper, flirting with the edges, and reaching into the corners. I create the awareness of volume. Proportion is manipulated according to the details and shapes that hold my interest. At the same time I am acutely aware of the drawing’s composition. A successful drawing combines the lines, shapes, and the essence of the model’s strike, attitude, and persona. I aim for the ah hah, the visual souffle. It is reasonable to expect one drawing out of 50 to be selected for the collection.
