Blue Bear

Cyanotype print of a black bear from a photo I captured in Yellowstone National Park. Hand brushed U.V sensitive chemistry onto watercolor with a transparency over it. Print is 16×12 in size

Cyanotypes, also known as ‘blue prints’ is an old 19th century photo process. Chemistry is mixed together and hand coated on the paper. Then light from the sun is used to expose the image. Instead of silver salts like most film and other darkroom processes use, cyanotypes are made with iron salts which gives it that distinct blue color.
