Bad Luck Comes in Three’s

Bad Luck Comes in Three’s is a hand-pulled lithograph. The image size is 14″ by 18″ and the paper size is 18″ by 22″. The image is printed on Arches Cover, an archival rag paper. This image is available unframed and shrink wrapped or framed with archival matting, a black frame and UV filtering glass. Contact me for a photo of the framed piece or for a studio visit.

This was the first in what I call my Fear series the image deals with both imagined and very real fears simultaneously.

This lithograph was completed at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.  It is a 6 color lithograph, hand drawn and printed by Faye Passow. Each color starts as a shaped black layer of ink on a litho stone into which I draw the negative areas with  single edge razor blades. The image is etched, processed, re-etched, printed in color and then removed from the stone’s surface to make way for the next color. Colors proceed from light to dark. Each color in this image is transparent which allows for blending and creating a full palette of colors. The green, for example, is blue printed over the yellow. This requires precise registration and lots of forethought. The colors are yellow, red, blue, brown, gray and black. Hand lithographs are multiple originals. This lithograph has a limited edition of 15 with 2 Artist’s Proofs. Each one is an original.

Bad Luck Comes in Three’s has been in a number of shows including Unprepared, a two person exhibition at the MIA in 2004, Trouble in Paradise, a solo show at Swan Song Gallery in Maiden Rock, Wisconsin, a three person exhibition at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, a juried print exhibition at Ceres Gallery in New York City  and Minnesota Surrealists, a two person exhibition at the Hopkins Art Center.

It is currently featured in an online exhibition for the First Unitarian Society’s “Art in the Gallery” program at www.fusgallery.org.
