Modernists Go Mobile is an imaginary trailer park which is home to the great Modernists architects of the 20th Century. It features trailers by Frank Lloyd Wright, Frank Gehry, Charles and Ray Eames, Buckminster Fuller, Marcel Breuer, I. M. Pei, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Philip Johnson, Michael Graves, Le Corbusier, Louis Kahn, Rem Koolhass, Jorn Utzon, Walter Gropius, Oscar Niemeyer and Robert Charles Venture, not listed in order of importance.
This lithograph was completed at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. It is a 5-color lithograph, hand drawn and printed by Faye Passow. The black run was drawn first using razor blades to achieve tone by scraping away a thin layer of ink from a fully inked litho stone. The stone has a fine texture and the scraping removes ink and particles of stone to reveal the light areas. This image is then printed on mylar and becomes the template for the color runs which are also drawn on a litho stone. Each of the colors is drawn separately and printed separately. The black image is printed last. Hand lithographs are multiple originals. This lithograph has a limited edition of 26 with 2 Artist’s Proofs. Each one is an original.
Modernists Go Mobile won 2nd Place at the Minnesota State Fair Art Exhibition in 2014 and has been featured in several exhibitions including the Atlanta Print biennial in Atlanta, Georgia, the F + C @ Seven at Form + Content Gallery in Minneapolis, Tributaries: A Centennial Celebration of Art & Design Alumni at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, Minnesota Surrealists, a two person exhibition at the Hopkins Center for the Arts. This image has also appeared in True Crime or True Fiction, a Bravo pilot in 2015.
It is currently featured in an online exhibition for the First Unitarian Society’s “Art in the Gallery” program at www.fusgallery.org.
