Michael Lanham is a self taught artist who identifies as an Abstract Alchemist. His paintings are a combination of oils, various mediums, raw pigments, and a variety of re-purposed media that create the barriers he pours color into. His process is a cold chemical reaction of medium and pigment as they continuously intermingle and infuse color though out the piece as it cures. His inspiration comes from naturally occurring events and images; a sunset, a virus, a nebula. While he has ventured into abstract portraits and skylines lately, he always comes back to nature for inspiration. Many people are tempted to touch his work to feel the texture, and he encourages everyone to do so. Unlike most oil paintings, Michael’s process creates a solid surface protecting the colors and media.
Michael has recently relocated to Minneapolis. He works out of his apartment studio in Uptown, and is looking forward to being a part of the Minneapolis art community.
