FEATURED ARTISTS FOR ART A WHIRL 2025:

Tom Keen – Painting | Drawing | Collages
“I’m Tom Keen, a self-taught artist based in the Arts District of Northeast Minneapolis who finds inspiration in my neighborhood and from my travels, particularly Venice, Italy. I primarily work with color pencils and most recently watercolors.
I have always been creative. As a kid, I would create paper dolls and play sets using the cardboard that came from my father’s dry cleaned shirts.
I put my artwork aside for much of my working life. Having recently retired, I have rediscovered my passion for drawing/painting.
One of the greatest joys I get from my work is interacting with people who grew up in NE Minneapolis and hearing their stories and memories of this special place.
Some of my biggest inspirations as an artist are Edward Hopper, Norman Rockwell, Claude Monet, and John Singer Sargent.
You can find my work at Smokeless, 514 E Hennepin Ave, in Minneapolis, and on Facebook.”

THE MUD BUDS (AKA THE POT HEADS) – FUNCTIONAL POTTERY

Meet the Mud Buds, a joyful crew of spirited women who found friendship, laughter, and creativity in their local pottery class. Now retired (or nearly there), they spend their days spinning clay, swapping stories, and making beautiful, functional art by hand. Whether they’re glazing mugs or cracking jokes, their passion is unmistakable.

Known affectionately (and hilariously) as “The Pot Heads” when featured in our shop, their work brings warmth, whimsy, and one-of-a-kind charm to any home. We’re proud to showcase their creations and celebrate the magic that happens when art, community, and a good sense of humor come together.
