This hands-on, two-and-a-half-hour encaustic workshop is an introduction to encaustics used in combination with photography. The workshop will examine the process of embedding a photo within encaustic medium and carving to create unique textures and depth. We will go over choosing a substrate to work on, gluing paper to boards, fusing, mixing your own medium, tools and where to find materials. There will be lots of studio time for you to practice the methods demonstrated.
Participants will be supplied with one 8×10 wood panel to work on during class. I will have all participants email me an image they’d like to work on. I will print your image and prepare the board prior to class (as the glue needs time to dry before encaustic medium is applied.) All materials are provided. You will leave class with an original work of art!
