In this two-day workshop, we will sew a pair of straight leg, elastic waist pants using the Versa Pants pattern by Danish patternmakers Puff and Pencil. This genderless pattern is suitable for people with a hip measurement between 33 and 50″, but if you need a smaller or larger size please reach out and we can either grade the pattern for you or substitute a similar pattern with a larger size range.
This project is customizable! Sew with the fabric of your choice – something light and flowy for a lounge-style pant, or something heavier like canvas or corduroy for more of a workwear vibe. These pants have French-seamed slash pockets, and you will have the option to add back patch pockets and side pockets with or without a cargo flap if you wish. You can also choose between a drawstring, simple elastic waistband, or bungee cord with stoppers for a fun detail. Maybe you want to make these pants cropped, or sew the pockets in a contrasting fabric! The design details are up to you – I will help you through the process. You’ll also be able to finish the seams with one of our sergers for a clean and professional look.
You’ll learn new skills including:
- French seams
- serger basics
- edgestitching and topstitching
- slash pockets
- patch/cargo pockets
- proper pinning and pressing
- changing the length of a pattern piece (if desired)
- elastic insertion
- & lots more!
