Art Shanty Projects is returning to the frozen water of Bdé Umáŋ / Lake Harriet in South Minneapolis with an outdoor program filled with its own brand of visually dazzling, sonically satisfying, and community-engaged interactive offerings. We look forward to welcoming grown adults and kids of all ages to play / learn / grow / laugh / smile / sing / groove / gather with us in the Art Shanty village. We once again have a suggested donation of $10-20. No one turned away. All are welcome!

THE ARTISTS + PERFORMERS!

The festival features 18 Shanties (15 of them new) and more than 20 performance groups. Every shanty is open and activated by artist teams during all public hours, and the programming also includes a rotating lineup of artists doing a variety of time-based, activist, interactive, wacky, sweet, experimental, climate-conscious, DIY, totally shantastic activities throughout the in-between spaces. While we don’t prescribe a theme, this year we’re seeing artists gravitate towards sonic experiences, collective introspection, experiments in sustainability, and movement(s) of both bodies and social agendas.  Read all about the projects and check out the performance schedule

BUNDLE UP! It’s OUTDOORS!
Artists had great success with the exterior-only festival in 2022, adapting with whimsical creativity and expanding the notion of what a shanty project can be! With the pandemic still taking twists & turns, we are once again offering an exterior-only program in 2023 for visitors.

ACCESSIBILITY
Accessible parking is available in the Bandshell lot, there are ADA-compliant ramps from the Bread & Pickle patio to the surface of the ice, and kicksleds available as mobility aids to and throughout the on-ice village. ASL interpreters and audio describers will be available from 11am – 2pm on all festival dates; visitors can get connected with a guide at the Welcome Shanty just inside the entrance gate.  To  To see our full accessibility plan and accommodations, please click here!
