Rogue Begonia is thrilled to host an intensive 3-day portrait workshop with Suzann Beck designed for busy artists who want to progress quickly and strengthen their core competencies in portrait painting. You’ll learn how Suzann’s principled, contemporary approach to portraiture can guide you to create a fresh, realistic painting in one sitting—alla prima style. We will have 5 distinct model sessions with ample time to practice the hands-on application of your learning. Come for the instruction, and stay for the laughs, lattes, and new painting connections!
This workshop focuses on the foundational skills that lead to successful alla prima painting and features demonstrations with ample hands-on student work. This workshop is appropriate for portrait painters of all levels.
Day 1: Geometry and construction of the face in a tonal underpainting — defining light and shadow.
Day 2: Palette management and color mixing— alla prima approach from start to finish.
Day 3: Hands-on work morning and afternoon with different models
Dates: Friday, April 28 – Sunday April 30th – 9am-4pm each day
Workshop Fee (includes all model fees): $550 per person
Ages 14 and up. Drawing and painting experience is suggested but not required. The class will break for an hour for lunch each day, please bring a lunch.
