MT3: Hillary Price, Depth Unknown

MANUAL TRANSMISSION is shifting into THIRD GEAR with a solo show of work by multidisciplinary artist Hillary Price, who will be taking over the garage and garden for an installation of 2D, 3D and multimedia work that challenges conceptions of space and perception. Cosmic bodies, crystal growth cycles, bird migrations, mycelium/hyphae highways bridging trees and mushrooms, caves, synaptic functions in the brain, visual diagrams of the internet, and aerial views of cities all serve as points of reference as Price collapses micro and macro systems into one scale, creating habitable spaces that parallel the inner workings of the mind expanding into the universe around us.

7-10 pm

Show runs through August 19

About the artist:

HILLARY PRICE’s expansive practice includes installation, painting/sculpture hybrids, and interactive encounters that focus on the synchronistic structures underlying our perceptions and experiences in the world. Price came to the Twin Cities to attend the University of Minnesota, where she completed her MFA this last May, but most of her early experiences occurred in the Southwest. She earned her BFA in painting and drawing at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas in 2013. During this time she also co-curated and co-owned The Fifth Wall gallery in Downtown Vegas, which functioned as an experimental space, bringing immersive installations to a burgeoning art scene. Afterwards, she lived and taught in rural Mississippi for two years, and in 2017 participated in the Shiro Oni Studio Residency in Onishi, Japan. Price currently lives in Minneapolis, where she also works as an art teacher, university instructor and guest lecturer
