Collagraphs are an exciting and relatively uncommon form of printmaking where elements such as leaves, sand, gesso, paper and fabric are collaged onto a board creating a textural “drawing.” This collage can then be printed onto paper to produce an inked embossing.
This is a two-session workshop. THURSDAY, AUGUST 15, 4:00p – 7:00p and THURSDAY, AUGUST 22, 4:00p – 7:00p. First, students will discover how to create collagraph plates using various materials including, but not limited to, plant material, fabrics, string, spices, corrugated cardboard and Mod Podge. Just about anything that will safely pass through the press is fair game. The second session will focus on printing the collagraph plates where students will have the opportunity to pull their own prints on an etching press.
Basic tools and materials will be provided. We will be printing with oil-based ink. Be sure to bring a smock or wear appropriate clothing as these inks will permanently stain all fabric.
Open to all skill levels, ages 16 and older. This workshop will be held at my studio at the Historic Thorp Building in NE Minneapolis. Workshop sizes range from 3 to 6 students and an ADA accessible entrance is available! An email with specific details and reminders will be sent out to students approximately one week ahead of the first workshop date.
