The one question I am most often asked about my work is: where do you get your ideas? Most of my works come to life from a single notion: what colors do I want to introduce to one another in a painting? Sometimes the result is an exuberant riot of color; and if I want those colors to party-on, I will create several panels to hang together in succession. Sometimes I crave the calmness of just two or three colors relaxing together. Or, due to my love of the color red, sometimes I devote a painting almost solely to that color--the happiest of colors--blazing sunsets and rosy cheeks after ice skating. Many of my works are layered, textured, multidimensional. It brings out each piece's own personality. Hopefully, all this mulling over of colors in my works ultimately makes you feel some joy. If I can get you to smile, well, it's all worth it. Picasso brilliantly said, "Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life." I think once that dust has been brushed off, there's nothing better to surround oneself with than color to infuse everyday life with joy.
