Directory profile: Maren Kloppmann Ceramics
Using pillow shapes and panels, I create sculptural wall installations and vessels of porcelain. Two premises inform my work: archetypes that exist as patterns and shapes in nature, and architecture, which identifies our spaces of existence and interaction. My aim is to balance a visual dialog between both aspects by combining traditional ceramic techniques with concepts found in Modernism and Minimalism. I construct each piece individually from clay slabs and intend to imbue precision of line and volume with the subtleties of the hand. My glazes are designed to reflect the alchemy of a fire-induced surface. Finding as much poetics in a minimalist structure as in the nuanced texture of a frozen lake, I seek to convey a moment of confluence where elements of archetype and architecture intersect.
