We bought a place in Mexico about 18 years ago, on the Pacific coast, about two hours south of PV.
It’s the house in Mexico that got me into painting.
I’d recently retired from a career as a medical technical writer and was looking for something a little less heart-poundingly exciting to occupy my time. After my first iguana paintings received nodding approval from a couple of professional artists in our village, I was hooked. I jumped into every online tutorial I could find. I tried my hand at all the mediums … graphite, watercolor, charcoal, acrylic, oil. I bought every art tool known to humankind … pencils, brushes, tubes of paint in may hues and shades (many not found in nature), charcoal twigs, panels, canvases, watercolor paper, easels.
Then I discovered the wonderful world of YouTube tutorials and in-depth instruction books. I began to discover what I was doing wrong and those few things I was doing right. So, the learning is the journey for me and practice is my ride. I hope to never arrive at a destination.
