My works are portals to a magical realism rendered in vibrant colors on canvas and wood. They often focus on familiar sights, including fauna and flora set in semi-abstract, or even entirely abstract backgrounds. I frequently use the juxtaposition of elements that seemingly would not belong together to create a higher sense of beauty and playfulness. For example, I paint objects such as flowers, umbrellas, and paper boats alongside whales and manatees. These seemingly out-of-place objects bring personality and drama to my subjects that I hope will inspire a desire for stewardship of nature in the viewer. Despite my use of vivacious and bold colors, my paintings have a soothing quality to them, thanks in part to cool or comforting hues that predominate the pictures.

This painting has to do with wanting to hide when confronting all the hate and injustice shown towards immigrants and minorities. Yes, we continue to fight for our rights, but we also need to shelter amongst our friends. We rest and we breath so we can resurface for another fight.

This one is called 'Rush and Repose' and it’s actually a reincarnation of an older painting. It took me the first 7 months of quarantining to paint this one. 'Rush' was what came before; the chaos and noise of each day and 'Repose' is about slowing down and taking a breath.
The last time I was forced to bring everything to a halt was when I had to go through chemo. Out of that experience was born my 'Anonymous Houseplant' series. This painting is very much a marriage of paintings houseplant and the joy of painting koi- two subjects that allow the most time for reflection.
