Paula Menchen – Mimosas Studios

I am a visual artist, primarily a painter who´s work explores the way to capture the fluidity and energy of paint. My paintings have a firm foot in abstraction; using collage and handmade washi paper to imprint a specific quality in my work. The inspiration is direct result from my time spent in Tokyo, Japan, re-examining the ideas of Asian and Western painting traditions.

Mixing materials and ideas to compose a language with it´s own rhythm and rules. My process consists of researching all kinds of techniques on paper; stenciled, stamped, dyed and resist, creating a unique palette of color and textures. I build up multiple layers of paint and paper and cuts allowing for a spontaneous burst of hues vibrating to the surface.
