Michael Nyland

I am a Minneapolis based painter and visual artist who grew up in SE Minnesota. I had always been interested in drawing growing up, but it wasn’t until I was studying pharmacy at South Dakota State University that I discovered my love for painting, where by an off chance, I elected to take an oil painting class.

Over the past few years, painting has shifted from a hobby to my primary pursuit as I began exploring a variety of different mediums and styles, and the desire to create just continued to grow!

While still exploring a broad spectrum of subject matter, I now primarily use oil paint (with some acrylic) to create surrealistic, psychedelic/visionary, or playful images of real life scenes. Uniquely combining a variety of techniques and styles, and drawing from both objective and subjective perspectives, I seek to evoke emotion, contemplation, and connection through my work.
