Creativity was always part of Marli, the little girl who took a bag with a screen print of ‘My Stuff’ on the
outside and craft projects—she hoped to convince her fellow students to make during playtime—tucked
inside with her to kindergarten. After an introduction to Frank Lloyd Wright’s scope of work which
included such things as textile and dinnerware design, a desire to study graphic design quickly
snowballed into a passion for architecture. The idea that someone could carefully craft an
encompassing environment from wall framing to dinner table was and is still absolutely fascinating to
Marli and something she hopes to carry into her own work. Spending three weeks, in the summer of
2002, in an apprenticeship program at Taliesin, the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture, her
passion was solidified. Following high school Marli went to the University of Minnesota where she
earned Bachelor of Science degrees in both Architecture and Art History and a Minor in Design. Before
attending graduate school at Taliesin, the Frank Lloyd Wright School of architecture, she took a summer
off and worked in a green house in her hometown—where her childhood green thumb only grew—and
started establishing BWB Handmade to sell items she makes as a creative outlet. Marli graduated from
Taliesin with her Master of Architecture degree in 2012 and returned to the Twin Cities in 2015. Since
returning, she has worked in several offices with focuses in areas of residential design including but not
limited to affordable multi-family housing, historic renovations, and second homes and became a
licensed architect in 2021.
