I have been working with clay for over 20 years, and I enjoy using multiple methods of construction and decoration. I am drawn to ceramics because you can only control so much of the process, and then you must let go.
In my slab Maze series, I find the precise measuring and patterning compelling. Each piece is constructed meticulously, but the firing process can, and often does, impact the final results.
My slab Layered Brick series was originally inspired by forensic science, and the process of using 3D printing to recreate evidence to help identify victims. I was drawn to the idea that using one thin and specific layer at a time ultimately leads to a beautiful and meaningful whole.
My Dot Bottle series is a form of meditation, hand painting each dot to create organic designs that enhance the piece. No two are identical but can relate in form and color.
I continue to be inspired by all the ways this medium can be used, functional and sculptural. The possibilities feel wide open, and keep me excited to experiment, learn and create.
