My studio will be open for Art-a-Whirl.
Artist’s statement: I paint mainly in the genres of nautical, historical and landscape art, working in oil, watercolor and metal point drawing. I am attracted to compositions with balanced forms and strong contrasts of light and shadow. I work in oil, watercolor and metalpoint drawing. My goal is to create a work that brings beauty, serenity and lasting enjoyment to the owner. I am also committed to fostering the arts and environmental conservation in local communities, both locally and globally, and seek ways to integrate these broad themes.
I was fortunate to be chosen as an artist-in-residence at Pine Needles. This historic facility on the St. Croix River was donated by the Dunne Family and is operated by the Science Museum of Minnesota and the St. Croix Watershed Research Station. During my stay at Pine Needles I focused on capturing light reflected on water, and especially moving water. I’m a plein air painter, and a former board member of Outdoor Painters of Minnesota. I am also a studio artist and a member of the Artblok artists’ coop, NEMAA, Minnesota Watercolor Society and Northstar Watercolor Society.
