Minneapolis based painter, Donna Bruni, is known for creating atmospheric oil paintings with broad, richly layered planes of color. Her compositions are based on form and flux of urban and natural environments. Influenced by beauty and mystique of coastal regions, diverse landscape memory and sense of place, her work investigates ideology of home and geography of identity. Daily observation of light, air, water, wind, earth, sky, seasons and life cycles become contextual elements for meditative works on canvas. The process involves applying and mixing oil pigment directly on canvas with palette knife, building layers of color and scraping or brushing out areas to expose details beneath the surface.
She attended the School of Visual Arts in New York and received her B.A. from the University of Minnesota. She is curator for Art in the Healing Environment Exhibition Program at M Physicians, Mill City Clinic Gallery, highlighting the contributions of Minnesota artists in community wellness.
Recent exhibitions of paintings by Donna Bruni include: Art in the Embassies San Salvador, El Salvador, Ambassador’s Exhibition, US State Department, Washington D.C; Riga, Latvia, Ambassador’s Exhibition; Visual Poetry, Gardner Colby Gallery, Naples, FL; Beyond Water and Sky, Mill City Clinic, Minneapolis, MN.
